Our History

Welcome to Salisbury

The idea of Salisbury Greenhouse was born in a small garage-side greenhouse on Helen and Fred Sproule’s property here in Sherwood Park, Alberta. Helen noticed a demand for bedding plants and started growing and selling them locally to her neighbours. The seeds had, quite literally, been sown and in three short years Fred quit his full-time job to help Helen grow their new business.  Salisbury Greenhouse started out as a family-owned and operated business and we’re proud to report that it continues to be one today. All six of Helen and Fred’s children helped out in the greenhouse, and it was Bob, their oldest son, who bought the business so his parents could retire. Today, Bob co-owns Salisbury Greenhouse with his three sons, Adam, David, and Rob.

As the business grew, Salisbury Greenhouse’s services did as well, expanding from wholesale bedding plants to also include cut flowers, retail, interior landscaping, and exterior landscaping. In 1993, Adam Sproule started Salisbury Landscaping, which has since become an award-winning firm that is well-known for its innovative and stunning landscaping designs.

Most recently, Salisbury Greenhouse has acquired the Enjoy Centre in St. Albert, Alberta further extending our reach to the local community. Like Salisbury Greenhouse, Salisbury at Enjoy provides shoppers with a unique one-stop shopping experience with an abundant plant selection, retail centre, and gardening accessories. Additionally, the Enjoy Centre also has a full spa, cafe and restaurant, whole foods store, and offers a truly stunning event space.

What started out as a small, home-based business has grown into the much larger operation that you see today proving just how important shopping locally is. While our reach now extends beyond Sherwood Park, our values remain the same, and we pride ourselves in continuing to provide quality products to our local neighbours—we just have more of them now! After all, gardening is about community, and it’s our goal to share our love of the garden with you while helping to inspire future generations of gardeners. Discover your love for gardening today at Salisbury Greenhouse!
