Little Green Thumbs – an Indoor Food Growing Program!
Little Green Thumbs is an indoor gardening program for children and youth. It is a powerful tool to engage students in learning and caring about the plants and the environment that sustains us. Hands-on, experiential learning is a big reason why this indoor gardening program has remained both popular and extremely successful in helping children acquire a wide range of skills and knowledge during the complete growing cycle of plants. The garden acts as a springboard for a wide range of activities related to teachers’ learning goals and fosters social development, healthy living, science and math skills, and environmental and local food awareness.

The indoor garden consists of four grow boxes and a grow light, as well as seedling trays and fertilizer. The training and support resources include training session, technical and horticultural advice, and program resources. We also offer “Growing Facilitators” (trained volunteers from the public or school community) as well as phone and email consultation to provide ongoing support in the classroom.
This program is available in schools in Edmonton, Strathcona County, Leduc, Beaumont, and St. Albert. We are able to offer full and partial subsidies to a limited number of schools!
